General selection criterion

For gensets, a general distinction is made between small or compact gensets, industrial gensets, special gensets, etc.

You need a genset? But which one is the right one, how should it look like, what are the selection criteria?

The drive

Which drive is the right one for the aggregate depends on different criteria. The following matrix should support you in your selection.

Criteria are the controllability of the speed, the dynamics, i.e. the ability to change the speed quickly or to react to load jumps, how many consumers can be controlled simultaneously, the costs, the robustness, the required installation space or the power density, the sensor technology or whether a concept already has certain sensor technology or is prepared for this and the efficiency of the drive.

The tank

Metal tanks and plastic tanks are used as tanks. Common materials are PE, PP or PA.

The tank size is determined by the following criteria

The displacement of the cylinder: The tank must at least cover the displacement of the cylinder and must not be emptied when the cylinder is extended to the maximum.
The delivery volume flow of the pump: In order to avoid foaming, the tank should ideally be dimensioned so that it can hold 3 times

The hydraulic function

In principle, any hydraulic function can be realized with a hydraulic power pack. However, there are certain frequently occurring standard circuit concepts, particularly in the case of compact power packs. These are:

  • Simple stroke-lowering circuit for plunger cylinders
  • Cylinder control with 4/3-way valve for differential cylinders
  • Cylinder control with 4/2-way valve for differential cylinders
  • Cylinder control with 4/3-way valve and rapid traverse switching for differential cylinders

The pump

The essential characteristic for the selection of the pump is the displacement volume. In addition, however, there are other criteria for pump selection that result from the displacement principle and the design type.

  • Dirt sensitivity: Depending on the design principle, pumps can be more or less sensitive to dirt.
  • Noise generation: In case of special noise requirements, especially helical-toothed pumps or screw pumps can be considered
